THOMAS WILLEM RENCKENS

Thomas Willem Renckens is a Dutch documentary filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His films often deal with the themes of fantasy and escapism. Having grown up in rural Holland, Thomas spent a great part of his childhood fantasising about being elsewhere. This urge for getting away from the real world came to define his work.

A graduate from the National Film & Television School’s ‘MA Directing Documentary’ course, Thomas has 5+ years of experience developing documentaries for indie production companies and broadcasters such as the BBC, Discovery Networks, Viceland, Sony Music, October Films, and Lion Television.

Thomas has been the recipient of grants from Het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Fundatie van Renswoude, and Genootschap Noorthey. His graduation film ‘The Daydreamers’ was nominated for a Grierson Award, and is currently being screened at film festivals worldwide. The film was also selected as part of the NPO’s (Dutch public broadcaster) ‘Filmmakers of the Future’ strand, and will be broadcast later this year.
